He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Thames and Bessie Thames; his wife Lucille Smith; his children, Deborah, Joy Stephens (Freddy) of Southern Pines, Jim Thames (Sandra) of New Bern, Rick Thames (Debbie) of Charlotte, Dan Thames of Rockingham and Chuck Thames (Rita) of Rockingham; and his sisters, Betty Slade (Bill Slade) of Westminster and Mary Ann Parker of Boone. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
