He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Funston and Lee Ann Funston (Krob); his grandparents, Neal and Gertrude Funston; and his aunts and uncles, Jean "Jeannie" Schossow, Shirley Weidmeier, David Funston and George Schossow, MD.

He is survived by: his wife Jan Sassano; his stepsons, Brian Kalgaard of Helena, MT and Paul Kalgaard of Helena, MT; his brother Richard "Rick" Funston; and his aunt Marie Saunders (Dale) of Appleton, WI..
