He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Kanning and Myrtle Kanning; and his brother-in-law Henry. He is survived by: his children, Willard, Sarah, Gary and Dennis; his wife Martha; his daughters, Rachel (James) and Bridget; his granddaughter Zelda; and his siblings, Willard (Nori), Sarah, Gary and Dennis (Roxanne). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
