He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Gierke and Esther Gierke; and his siblings, Robert (Bud), William (Billy), George and Shirley Southworth.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Allyson Gierke, Gay Beaudet, LuAnn Birdwell (Weldon), Hal Gierke (Justine), Garve Gierke (Tracey) and Guy Gierke (Gretchen); and his grandchildren, Zachary Gierke, Madison Beaudet, Keifer Beaudet, Benjamin Birdwell, Isaac Birdwell, Jordan Gierke, Jamie Gierke, Bree Beals and Jonathan Gierke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Extended Care Unit of the Holy Rosary Hospital or to the Animal Control Unit, where he spent many happy hours hosted by Brian Certain; or to the charity of one's choice.
