He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Bitz and Suzanne Bitz; and his siblings, Judith Hogan and Clarence Thomas Bitz. He is survived by: his wife Mavis; his sister Carol (Tom Geer); his daughters, Darlene Troutwine, Bonnie Kennick, Debbie Haberlock and Brenda Peyton; and his stepchildren, Dan Swensen and Laura Stainbrook.
