He was predeceased by: his wife Audrey Smail (Nelson); his parents, William "Ward" and Mary Smail; and his siblings, Joyce Baker, Monica Maloney, Ivan, Keith, Ralph and Harold Smail.
He is survived by: his sister Ora Ayers (Smail); his children, Ward Smail of Stanford, Leslie Rich (Don) of Kalispell, Vickie Dubbs (Scott) of Lewistown and Teresa Diercks (Jim) of Bozeman; his grandchildren, Letha Manning (Zachary) of Lewistown, Cory Rich (Karyn) of Tacoma, WA, Eric Rich (Alexis) of Boise, ID, Kyle Dubbs (Stefanie) of Lewistown and Boone Smail of Bozeman; his stepgrandchildren, Jeremiah Marquardt (Hannah) of Stanford, Kyle Marquardt (Naomi) of Stanford and Roxy Schneeman (Miles) of Livingston; his great grandchildren, Aidan, Amarah Manning, Josie, Tyson, Taylor Dubbs, Eli, Henry Rich and Carter Rich; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Alexia, Olive and Theo Marquardt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewistown Public Library or Judith Basin County Free Library.
