He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Skartved and Neva Skartved (Jimison); his grandson Matthew; and his brothers, Vernon and Harold.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Skogas; his children, Trina Tate (George) and Todd Skartved (Audra); his grandchildren, John Tate (Danielle), Aaron Skartved, Tyler Tate (Kara), Ashley Fetter (Colby) and Rachl Skartved; his great grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Lily, Tristan, Jaxon, Karson, Tre, Joby and Kolter; and his siblings, Donald, Eddie (Glenda) and Nora.
