He was predeceased by: his father Dessie Hughes; his sister Andrea Joe; and his son Doug Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca "Becky" Hughes; his daughter Elizabeth Sampat; and his stepchildren, Anne Scott (Kenneth), Jack Cooper and David Cooper (Dawn). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
