He is survived by: his wife Creuza Alves Melo of Glendive; his sons, Daniel Squires (Dalana) of McKinney, TX and Thomas Squires (Lori) of Piedmont, OK; his grandchildren, Montana Squires (Christy) of Garland, TX, Shawnee Jones (Tanner Jones) of Little Elm, TX, Sam Squires, Josiah Squires of McKinney, TX, Corbin Squires (Kaelyn Squires) of Piedmont, OK and Carter Squires of Piedmont, OK; his great grandchildren, Ezra Forrest Jones and Tobias Daniel Jones; his sisters, Sandra Squires of Omaha, NE and Susan Squires Remmich of Billings, MT; and his nieces and nephews, Michael Boland, Seth Remmich, Dean Remmich, Paulo Paes, Tatiana Boland, Daniela Ibrahimi and Ieda Paula Paes.

Jim served on the CEDAR Foundation (Christian fund raising) and the Dawson County Educational Foundation (scholarship fund raising), the Northern Pulse Growers Board of Directors.
