He was predeceased by: his parents, George Dudley and Lilly Belle Ballard (Gasteneau); his siblings, Mary Rachel "Mickey" Smith, Juanita Armstrong, Billy Wegner, Dudley Ballard, Jack Ballard and Forest Ballard; and his children, Kirby Ballard and Sue Melle.
He is survived by: his spouses, Margaret Ann Wolfenbarger May and Sandra Hummel; his children, Walter T. Ballard Jr., Kay Ballard (Jim Mallard), Peggy Ballard and Tom Ballard (Holly); and his sister Gussie Smith. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
