He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Coates (Gachina) and Melvin Coates (Dange); his parents-in-law, Ed and Vilma Powers; his sisters, Sharon Axtnam and Liann; his siblings-in-law, Carmel Ramirez (Chico) and Jill Powers; and his nieces, Teresa, Sheri Wine and Tonya Coates.

He is survived by: his nephew Lyle Ford; his wife Patsy Powers; his sons, Jason (Karla), Shawn (Noelle) and Casey Coates; his grandchildren, Jaxon Patrick, Kooper Michael, Tenyson James, Olivia Rose Coates, Jaci Stillwagon and Kelsea Kay Baker; his siblings, John Coates (Sis), Mark Coates, Sissie Coates, Jerry Powers (Sharon), Don Powers (Lori), Tim Powers, Dan Powers, Greg Powers (Joani) and Kim Cook (Scott); and also, Danny, Greg Powers and Kim Cook.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St Patrick's Church (329 W Mercury St, Butte, MT 59701). A celebration of life was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
