He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bernard Soft and Clara Soft (Graber); his brother Roland "Hans" Soft; his wife Linda Jo Schneider; his children, Max Soft of Billings and Brook White (Larry) of Richland, Missouri; his brother Loren Soft (Janice) of Billings, Montana; and his grandchildren, Edmond James "EJ" Soft of Gainesville, Konnar (Hannah Hayes) of Billings and Aubree Soft of Billings, Montana..

A memorial service was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Faith E Church (3145 Sweet Water Dr, Billings, MT 59102).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim's name can be made to the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation.

“Linda: Our hearts are heavy knowing we will see him no more here, but forever in glory!!! When you two married, you were faintly aware that this day would come, but we are never ready for it!!! For what it's worth, it would have been much more difficult for Jim to lose you!!! For some reason, women seem to be stronger, emotionally, than are men! Knowing where he is helps, but the hole in your heart will take time to heal!!! Mary and I are praying for you!!! We wish we could do more!!!”
