He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathias Hemmer and Anna Schroer Hemmer; his siblings, Frank, John, Lawrence, Joseph, James, George, Charles and Annaleen Zeeke (Hemmer); and his son Baby James Hemmer.
He is survived by: his children, Cindy Lou Hemmer of Fayetteville, Ark, Mary Ann Hickle (Lee) of Willow, Laughlin, Nev, Jeanne Sawatzky, Barbara Cline of Billings and Gerald James Hemmer of Billings. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
