He is survived by: his spouse Elizabeth; his children, Lucy Pomeroy Hanes Masemer, Lindsay Philips Hanes Orms and John Wesley Hanes, III; his stepchildren, Peter Hoagland, Chris Hoagland and Jennifer Hoagland Sargent; and also Hanes. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and many, many friends.
