He is survived by: his parent Nancy Dunbar Bethley; his wife Edna "Peggy" Gaines Bethley of Baton Rouge, LA; his children, James E. Bethley Jr. of Vicksburg, MS, Bertha L. Bethley, Dianne B. Jolla of Baton Rouge, LA and Eloise B. Pope of Houston, TX; and his sister Oceal B. Stewart of New Orleans, LA.. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.
