He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Franklin Johnstone and Edith Wiederhold Johnstone; and his brothers, John C. Johnstone of West Point and Robert A. Johnstone of Benton, Kansas.. He is survived by: his daughter Brittney Johnstone (Joe Stark) of West Point; his sister Joy Johnstone of Kansas City, MO; his niece Kimberlee Link; his nephew Marc Johnstone; his great-nephews, Tyler and Alex Johnstone; and also Jamie Johnstone.
