He was predeceased by: his parents, Sara Louise Martin Harpole and Wayman Belton Harpole; and his brother Jerry Belton Harpole. He is survived by: his wife Dr. Sandra H. Harpole; his daughter Sara Beth Harpole Proffitt of Columbus; his grandchildren, Margaret Banks Proffitt of Clinton, McKellar Proffitt of Charleston, SC and Reuben Proffitt of Columbus; and his brother Terry Harpole of Maben.
