He was predeceased by: his parents, Buddie Nowell and Lucy Pitts Nowell; his siblings, J. W. Nowell, Dorothy Hinton and Betty Ruth Sharkey; and his sons-in-law, David Boaz and Johnny Shoemaker.
He is survived by: his wife Edna Earl Sanderson Nowell; his daughters, Debbie Shoemaker of Waynesboro, MS and Regina Hancock (Paul) of Waynesboro, MS; his granddaughters, LaBreeska Atkinson (Sam) of Sylvester, GA and Laken Hancock of Waynesboro, MS; his great grandchild Jakin Atkinson of Sylvester, GA; and his siblings, Rev. Norman Nowell (Azalene) of Waynesboro, MS, Vinnie Mae Brewer of Grand Bay, AL and Donna Dunnam (Cecil) of Waynesboro, MS. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
