He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Zabel and Lucy Morford Zabel; and his siblings, Robert Lee "Buddy" and Edna. He is survived by: his sisters, Patricia Powers and Peggy Keith; his wife Sallie Newton; his daughters, Sheryl Lidzy and Sharon Nichols; his grandchildren, Ian Arbogast, Christy and Oberon of Fultondale, AL; and his daughters, Sydney Rice, Shelby Nichols and Sara Nichols.
