She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Frank and Sammie Lee Clark Byard; her husband Burlin M. Matthews; and her siblings, Lucille Henson, Lawrence Byard, Ralph Byard, Paul Byard, Charlie Byard and Tommy Byard.
She is survived by: her sons, Gary Brawner (Shiela) of Westley Chapel, FL and Larry Brawner (Nelda) of Walnut, MS. She is also survived by five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
