She was predeceased by: her parents, Lawrence E. Spivey and Frances L. Sigh Spivey; her daughter Patricia "Trisha" Smith; and her brother Michael "Mike" Spivey. She is survived by: her son Patrick Emerson (Melanie); her son-in-law Billy Joe Smith; her grandchildren, Jordan Parks (Jon), David Emerson, Bradley Smith (Jenny) and Amy Smith; and her siblings, Sylvia Thornell (Redmond), Darrel Spivey (Corrie) and Philip "Butch" Spivey. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's, ASPCA, or your local animal shelter in Joy Emerson's name.
