He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Cordes and Beulah Cordes; his wife Mary Phyllis Middleton Cordes; his siblings, Joe Dick Cordes and Bertha Alice Ratke (Otto); his grandchildren, Joseph Samuel Lackey and Katherine Lyn Harper; and his great grandchild Kelsey Danielle Bates.
He is survived by: his children, Herman (Beulah Cordes), Robin Lackey (Randy), Rhonda Harper (Gregg), Darla McVan (Donny) and Dale Cordes (Lyn); his grandchildren, Jason Lackey (late Katy), Shannon Bates (Michael), Justin Harper (Brittany), Jacob Harper, Jill McVan, Logan McVan and Grace Claire McCrary (Taylor); his sister-in-law Gerrie Cordes; his caregivers, Crystal, Nneka, Stephanie, Regina, Dorothy, Nechelle and Tina; his grandsons, Judah and Gray; and also, Preston, Matthew, Caleb and Noah.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Fisher-Riles Funeral Home (5000 Indiana Ave, Vicksburg, MS 39180). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery (12023 New Zion Rd, Crystal Springs, MS 39059).
