He was predeceased by: his parents, Allene Alston and Jessie Alston; his son Rusty; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Rachel Prince; his siblings, J. D. Alston, Hazel Evans Williams, Mary Ann Welch and Cherry Easley; and his significant other Betty Avery.
He is survived by: his children, Max (Vicki), Susan Jill Sawyers (Rick) and Mona Nicholas (Chris); his daughter-in-law Debbie Alston; his grandchildren, Sarah Byrne (Patrick), Lindsey Alston, John Max Alston (Bria), Lauren Boler (Danny), Avery, Anna Chris Nicholas, Hannah, Joanna, Miriam and Rebecca Sawyers; and his great grandchildren, Jack Wyatt, Max Everett, Margaux Byrne, Olivia, Annabelle Alston, Grayson, Braxton and Henley Boler. He is also survived by his friends, children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
