He was predeceased by: his wife Faye Cook Herring; his parents, R. R. Herring (Dude) and Cornelia Herring; his sister Martha Morris; his parents-in-law, Tommy and Hazel Cook; and his brother-in-law Bill Cook.
He is survived by: his children, Wayne Herring (Kristi), Cindy Womack (Bruce) and Gwen Luckey (Wes); his grandchildren, Olivia Barrett (Brad), Cody Ferguson, Hanna Duran (Eli), Karlye Jennings (Preston) and Katie Reynolds (Justin); his niece Connie Smith (Larry); and his brother-in-law Rex Morris. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
