Sylvia Pegues Obituary
The memory of Sylvia Pegues (Tupelo, Mississippi), who passed away on February 25, 2025 at the age of 87, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. She was predeceased by: her parents, William Sims Owen and Mattie Laura Akers; her husband Leonard M. Pegues; her grandmothers, Estelle "Mamaw" Akers and Pauline "Mama Polly" Morris; her aunt Mary Deane Akers; and her brother Jesse Hastert.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sherie Eklof (Steve) of Kirksville, Lisia Cannon (Barry) of Mathiston and Kimberly Pegues of Saltillo; her brother James K. "Pete" Hastert of Tupelo; her nephew Jay Hastert (Brenda) of Tupelo; her granddaughters, Molly Brown (Dalton) and Abby Ivy (Sam); and her great grandchildren, Beckett Brown, Lynley Brown, Leighton Ivy and Ella Ivy.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 4th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Pegues Funeral Directors (535 W Jefferson St, Tupelo, MS 38804). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 4th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues (535 W Jefferson St, Tupelo, MS 38804). After raising her three girls, Sylvia became director of RSVP, later becoming Activity Coordinator for Lee Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 2000.
