He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert R. Godbold, Sr. and Annie E. Godbold; his brothers, Rev. Robert Godbold (Betty) of New Albany, MS and Duncan Godbold of Germantown, TN; and his brother-in-law Milton Wells of McLean, VA..

He is survived by: his wife Betsy Wooten Godbold; and his sisters-in-law, Susan Wells of Oxford, MS and Elizabeth Godbold of Germantown, TN. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 106 E. Lampkin St., Starkville, MS 39759.
