He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wallace Whitten, Jr. and Marianne Thaxton Whitten; and his brother Thax Whitten. He is survived by: his wife Mona Tharp Whitten of Sumner; his sons, John Whitten, IV (Mandy) of Hernando and Robert Whitten (Tabatha) of Sumner; and his grandchildren, Mary Janice, Madeline, Jay and Max Whitten of Sumner.
