He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Herman and Sarah Elisabeth Thornton of Raleigh, MS; and his siblings, Marion Thornton, John Bob Thornton, Ervin Mack Thornton, Michael Donnie Thornton, Eloise Thornton Scott and Mary Dell Thornton.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Nichols Thornton; his children, Danny Ray Thornton (Angela), Mitchell David Thornton (Karen) and Rhonda Jean Thornton Jenkins (Bill); and his sister Gloria Ann Thornton Craig. He is also survived by grandchildren, and 19- great-grandchildren.
