He is survived by: his wife Rose Marie "Patsy" Hughes of Steens, MS; his children, Herman "Buddy" Hughes, Jr. (Jan) of Trussville, AL, Susanne Smith (Dennis) of Fayette, AL and Jennifer Scott (Dave) of Jackson, MS; his siblings, Donald Hughes (Doris) of Corinne, WV, Ruth Ann Youngblood (Don) of Pottsboro, TX and Betty Jean Willey (Bob) of Beckley, WV; and his grandsons, Josh Hughes of Wichita, KS, John Hughes (Rachel) of Leeds, AL and Joe Hughes (Sandy) of Florence, KY.
