He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Lavell Montgomery and Jessie Prater Montgomery; his wife Brenda Joyce Montgomery; and his brother-in-law John T. McReynolds, Sr.. He is survived by: his son John Prate Montgomery, Jr. (Melissa); his grandchildren, Madeline Montgomery and John Nathaniel Montgomery; and his siblings, Monty Montgomery (Mary) of Knoxville, TN and Kay McReynolds of Starkville, MS..
