He was predeceased by: his father Charles H. Butler. He is survived by: his mother Frances Butler Varnado Richard; his wife Gail Boyd Butler; his daughters, Nikki Lynn Butler, Brandi Smith (Steve) and Brooke Flory (Will); his siblings, William Caroll Butler (Debbie), Charlotte Butler and Donna Girod; his grandson Michael Smith; and his sister-in-law Linda Hunt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
