She was predeceased by: her parents, Ellis McKenzie and Willie Mae McKenzie; her siblings, Webbie McKenzie, Jerry McKenzie and Jessie Faye McKenzie; and her sons, David Merritt and Gary Glen Merritt.

She is survived by: her children, Theresa Brooker (Ed) of Pinehurst and Glen Bowen (Fay) of Lillington; and her sister Frankie Lawson (Calvin) of Texas. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
