He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Fortenberry and Kertie Fortenberry; his brother Claude H. Fortenberry; and his son Richard Fortenberry. He is survived by: his wife Betty Fortenberry; his children, Rebecca Hance (Doug) and Robert Fortenberry (Margaret); and his grandchildren, Bethany Cole (Daniel), Charissa Fortenberry, Elizabeth Hance, Caroline Hance and Daniel Hance (Doyeon).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob's honor to Sandy Hook Baptist Church.
