He was predeceased by: his parents, Will Ervin and Ouida Ervin; his brother J. W. Ervin; and his brother-in-law Louie Fortenberry. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Ervin; his children, Patty Stringer (Kenny), Terri Ervin and DeWayne Ervin (Darlene); his siblings, Peggy Fortenberry, Renet Tullos (Larry) and Jimmy Dale Ervin; his sister-in-law Jo Ervin; his grandchildren, Krystal Jerkins (Derrick) and Channing Stringer (Kayla); and his great grandchildren, Callie Jerkins, Caitlyn Jerkins, Lainey Grace Stringer and Maverick Stringer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
