She was predeceased by: her sister Darlene Johns; her nephew Cody Curtis; her grandparents, Clarence, Pearl Haynes Ferguson, Winford and Pearl Johns; and her stepfather Williams Vernon.

She is survived by: her husband David DeVaughn; her parents, Mae Sue Vernon of Chapel Hill and Powell Eugene Johns (Donna) of Dover, Tennessee; her brother Chris Johns (Michelle) of Chapel Hill; her brother-in-law George DeVaughn (Claudia) of Saltillo; her nieces and nephews, Ashley Johns Jewell (Jacob) of Chapel Hill, Erica Curtis of Chapel Hill, Joshua Curtis (Jennifer) of Chapel Hill and Arthur DeVaughn; her cousin Marianne Blackwell of Chapel Hill; and her close friend Nancy Price.
