He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Shields and Mattie Sue Russoe Shields; his former wife Dortha Nell Shields; his daughter Elesia Shields; his grandson John Beck, Jr.; his sister Sudie Davidson; his siblings-in-law, Gene Davidson, Elvis "Bud" Taylor and Brenda Shields; and his son-in-law Ted Hughes.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Shields; his children, Charlotte Beck (John) of Ramsey, IL, Eric Shields (Stefanie) of Saltillo, Angela Hughes (Danny Bell) and Heidi Spencer Beasley (Brad) of Homewood, AL; his grandchildren, Chasity Perry (Nolan), Jeffrey Oliver, Deedra Johnson, Jeremy South, Eddie Duty, Jr., Adam Duty, Samantha Culver (Anthony), Erin Beasley and Josh Beasley; and his siblings, Kelcy Shields (Judy) and Betty Taylor. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.
