He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Stavros Colonias and Evangeline Marco Colonias. He is survived by: his former wives, Becky Chambers and Irene Jansson; his children, Kent, Tommy and Anders; his wife Lisa; and his children, Beth, John (Karen) and Graham (Caroline). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and numerous grandchildren.

In 2018, he created the Colonias-Jansson Foundation at Uppsala University, so that this legacy will continue for generations to come.
