He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Thornton and Winnie Thornton; and his brother Don Thornton of Raleigh. He is survived by: his wife Terry Thornton of Raleigh; his son Clay Thornton (Jessica) of Mt. Olive; his stepdaughter Ashlyn Derrick of Raleigh; his grandson Jason Lee Yates; his brothers, Doug Thornton of Colorado, Paul Thornton (Susan) of Raleigh and Keith Thornton (Linda) of Pineville; and his sister-in-law Ann Thornton of Raleigh. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
