He was predeceased by: his parents, Lizzie Viney and Pascal Mangum Thornton of Raleigh, Mississippi.; his daughter Tammy Glyn Thornton Bynum (Baby Sug) of Brandon; his great grandchild Ella Dean Thompson of Pearl; his siblings, Lennis Thornton of Brandon, Joe Thornton (Bee) of Brandon, Lester Thornton (Bud) of Jacksonville, FL, Alyne Clark (Doodle) of Raleigh and Ava D; and his stepson Tommy Lee Jones of Byram.

He is survived by: his wife Wilmaette Thornton; his stepsons, Ritchie Martin (Susan) and Larry Jones (Tera); his grandchildren, Hannah Martin (Tyrone Davis), Cory Jones, Jody Jones, Russell Thompson, Justin Thompson and Austin Bynum; and his great grandchildren, Kennedy Jones, Beau Thompson, Trevor Ashmore and Avery Ashmore. He is also survived by many friends and family and a host of nieces and nephews.
