He was predeceased by: his wife Billie Jean Matheny; his son Steve Matheny; his parents, Burl Matheny and Delia Matheny; and his siblings, Charlie Matheny, Marvin Matheny, Burl Matheny, Brunette Fortenberry and Elsie Dee Aultman.
He is survived by: his sons, Larry Matheny of Purvis and Billy Ray Matheny of Purvis; his grandchildren, Keith Matheny, Ricky Matheny, James Matheny, Lynn Matheny and Lisa Matheny Norris; and his sister Bobbie Nell Bounds of Sumrall. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and seven great-great- grandchildren.
