He was predeceased by: his wife Georgie Young; his parents, Sam Young and Flora Young; and his sisters, Sammie Burleson, Martha Miller and Patsy Bass.

He is survived by: his children, Wendy Martin (Scott) of Carolina Community, Bobby Joe Young, Jr. and Jennie Young (Guy Weeks) of Arlington, Tennessee; his sister Mary Goff (Bobby); and his granddaughter Maggie Martin (Manterio Green) of Mooreville.
