He is survived by: his wife Sandra Goodwin Houston; his children, John W Houston, Jr., Charon Polito (Victor) and Jennifer McDonald (Bruce); his grandchildren, Jaclyn H. Simpson, John W. Houston, III, Britney Kiger, Brennon Windham and Lauren McDonald; and his sister Joan Barton.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Picayune (401 Goodyear Blvd, Picayune, MS 39466). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the New Palestine Cemetery (2336 Palestine Rd, Picayune, MS 39466).
