He was predeceased by: his wife Anna L. Davis Spiers; his parents, Lawrence H. Spiers and Mittie Dillard Spiers; his stepmother Elsie Mitchell Spiers Evans; his brother Charles W. Spiers; and his stepson Edward L. Shade, Jr..
He is survived by: his stepdaughters, Diane Shade Lee, Gail Shade Sandoval and Tammy Shade Hahn (Lee); and his friend J. R. Feyh. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, and thirty-two great grandchildren.
