He was predeceased by: his father Grady Roper; his brother Thomas Roper; his son-in-law Timothy Thomas; his brother-in-law Jerome Warren; and his stepfather Wiley Whinery.
He is survived by: his son Dr. Gregory Roper of Santa Barbara; his grandchildren, Abby Hairston (Jeff), Brody Thomas (Audrey Kendall) and Carly Thomas (Payton Pierce); his great grandchildren, Jack and Sam Hairston; his siblings, Dorothy Warren, Louise Thrash, LaHara Pullin (Raymond) and Billy Roper; his stepbrothers, Marion Whinery (Sherry) and Hilary Whinery; and also, Scherrie Willis, Allen Willis (Buffy), Mechelle Maxey (Thomas) and Eddie Willis. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
