With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Max R. West (Philadelphia, Mississippi), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his daughter Janice West Lindsay; his granddaughter Rachel Lindsay; his parents, Hollie West and Mellie West; and his siblings, Harold (Loraine West), Helen (Merle Ferguson) and Earlene (Otis Sebren).
He is survived by: his wife Virginia West; his daughters, Penny Dickerson (Kenny) of Philadelphia and Cindy Thomas (Randy) of Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Ashley Davis (Chris), Hollie Breland (Drew), Spencer Dickerson (Jessica), Taylor Dickerson (Jordan) and Hunter Dickerson (Alex); his sister Faye McDaniel of Union Church; and his son-in-law Bruce Lindsay. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 5th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the First Methodist Church (563 E Main St, Philadelphia, MS 39350). A funeral service was held on Sunday, January 5th 2025 at 3:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Shelton Cemetery.
This achievement marked the beginning of a distinguished 37-year career with the Mississippi State Forestry Commission, during which he spent 28 years as the District Forester for the 13 County East Central District in Mississippi, where he made significant contributions to forest management and conservation.
