She was predeceased by: her former husband James Daniel Walters; her parents, Walter Frazier Barnett and Elsie Purvis Barnett; her siblings, Walter Frazier Barnett, Jr., William Thomas Barnett, Ronald Frank Barnett, Judith Faye Taylor and Mildred Rae Draughn; her grandson Joshua Walters; and her stepgranddaughter Holly Shoemake.

She is survived by: her husband Charles Prentiss Carter of Petal, MS; her children, Charles D. Walters (Sybil) of Hattiesburg, MS, Dorothy "Dottie" Martin of Petal, MS and Elizabeth Ann Fitzpatrick (Terry) of Saucier, MS; her stepson Gregory Carter (Heather) of Petal, MS; and her sisters, Betty Jackson of Madison, MS and Nancy Hegwood of Petal, MS. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
