He was predeceased by: his parents, James Archie Wilson and Mary Jane Wilson; his wife Debra Wilson; and his son John A. "Jay" Wilson, Jr.. He is survived by: his son James A. "Jim" Wilson; his brother Jimmy Wilson; his grandchildren, Mazi, Michael, Trey and Cody Wilson; his nephew James A. "Andy" Wilson, Jr.; and his nieces, Christie Smith and Valerie Dendy.
