He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry Downing and Wilma Overby Downing of Natchez; his brother Larry Eugene Downing of Camarillo, California; and his former wife Elva Ruth Eidt Downing. He is survived by: his wife Doris Speed Downing; his daughters, Andrea Laird (Rush) of Meridian, MS and Ruth-Ellen Lagos (Alexander) of Allen, TX.; his grandchildren, Kyle A. Laird (Ashley), Bailey A. Laird (Austin Middleton) of Meridian, MS and Sophia A. Lagos of Allen, TX.; his great grandchild Lee Thomas Laird of Meridian, MS.; and his friends, Opie Grenn, Gerald Noelle, Terrale of Washington and Henry Conn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in Byram, MS or the American Heart Association.
