He was predeceased by: his parents, William G. Spence, Sr. and Odette Ware Spence Smith; his brothers, William Bill and James "Jim" McGhee Spence; his nephew Eric James Spence; his great-nephew Kolbie Spence; and his niece Susan Elizabeth Spence.
He is survived by: his close friend Luann "Lucy" Alexander; his son David Spence (Leighann); his granddaughter Emilia Spence; and his siblings, Catherine Spence, Charles "Chuck" Spence, Richard "Rick" Spence (Cheryl), Judy Beard (Buddy) and Janet "Jan" Spence (DJ Drury). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
