He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lee East and Dorothy Mae Allen; his siblings, Robert Earnest East, Keina East, Alerta Hayes and Barbara Jean East; his parents-in-law, Shirley Rankins-Ellis and Booker T. Rankins Sr.; and his siblings-in-law, Wanda Rankins-Sipp, Clark Rankins Sr. and Anthony McNeil.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley East; his daughters, Charnette Rankins and A'tara East-Triplett (Ryan); his granddaughters, Aiyana and Samiya; his siblings, Monaceda Beck, Andrea East Atarah Yehudah (Christine), Adrianne Reese, Rodney Bailey, Edward Bailey, Rodley Bailey, Donavon Bailey, James Jordan Sr., Jerry East, Michael Perdue and Gilbert Bailey; his siblings-in-law, Margaret Avery, Alma Woodard (Jesse), Booker T. Rankins Jr. and Tonney Moore; and his niece Dr. LaWanda Moore (Wendell).
